Camille M. Bertram

Educational Consultants

Melinda L. Irwin, Ph.D., M.P.H.

Melinda recently joined Bertram Educational Consultants, but she is not new to college and graduate school advising and mentoring. She is currently an associate professor and cancer researcher at Yale University. She has met the highest standards in the profession: earning a Ph.D., serving on the admissions committee of Yale's School of Public Health, and mentoring numerous students at both the high school and college level. Melinda was inspired to become an independent educational consultant after being told by many of her students and their parents of her natural skill in listening, motivating, and empowering students to realize their educational potential.

Prior to working at Yale, Melinda completed postdoctoral work in Seattle in 2001. Melinda is a graduate of the College of William and Mary, and holds three graduate degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of South Carolina in Columbia and University of Washington in Seattle.

Using her professional and academic experience, Melinda’s approach is to give unbiased college and graduate school educational advice and make recommendations based upon the student’s needs and abilities. Through personalized attention, she works with the student to develop and refine a list of colleges or graduate schools with the appropriate intellectual, extracurricular and social fit. She will work with the student to critique essays, beat deadlines, make college contacts, and prepare for campus visits and interviews. Her job is also to provide objective advice at decision time, which can be an overwhelming period in the whole process. She will also help with the transition to this new academic experience by keeping in close contact with the student, especially in the early days.
